OMG, what IS that?!?

I just got off the treadmill.

I went a little longer and farther today – 1.2 miles in 23 minutes.

Trust me, I had motivation.

Each morning, after I finally roll out of bed, I get into my workout clothes and then stretch in the bedroom before walking down the hall to the room with the treadmill.

Today, for the first time and for reasons unknown, I happened to look in my full-length mirror while stretching.

So, I’m bent over in positions no one should see, with black sweat pants on and my legs spread wide.

I’m pretty much upside down and not wearing my glasses, when I look in the mirror and think, “what IS that?”

“Is that my ass?”

I start touching various body parts, still upside down and looking at the mirror though my legs, until I realize it is my belly.

Just hanging there.

Through my legs.

Visible on the other side.

O.M.G.

Old Me would have said “Screw this, I’m too far gone” and climbed back into bed.

But New Me is trying to remember that this is not going to happen overnight.

I have to take it one day at a time.

Sometimes the big picture can get really overwhelming. Remember, I want to lose 100 pounds by Dec. 31.

That sounds astronomical.

But when I break it down to 2.3 pounds a week, it seems more doable.

This week, I’ve literally gone day by day. I wake up and tell myself, “Just today. That’s all I’m going to worry about. Get on the treadmill, eat right. Move more, eat less.”

Just today.

And eventually, those days will turn into weeks and months, and I’ll see results.

I have to have faith.

Until then, I’m avoiding all mirrors while stretching.

  1. OMG!!! I thought my partner in the center Norman and I would fall in the floor laughing at your description of stretching!!! Honey you have made my day with laughter (which is THE BEST MEDICINE) and I have to tell you I love you so very much! I hope everything starts to get easier as all your work gets into some type of a routine where you will actually miss the treadmill if you don't use it. You go Girl and kick that other woman off your back!!!

  2. With this honesty and ability to write about it, I believe you're going to make your goal by the end of the year. And thanks for clearing up what you wear while on the treadmill :-0
    Love ya! Keep it up!

Uh, thanks for helping me be hyper-aware of all of MY jiggly bits this morning. And there are many. Yee-ikes. I give you soooooo much credit for keeping at it. (The "stay in bed" voice in my head is still winning.)

  7. Misty, this blog is AMAZING! Keep it up! (The blog, the healthy eating & the exercise!) I have now gone 3 days with out exercising. :( But in my defense, we have guests coming in 4 days, and I've been working my butt off getting the house ready. You'd think that we'd just keep the house guest worthy... but time & laziness sets in...I took 5 hours to clean organize, declutter our two desks yesterday (that's in addition to the many demands from the two year old & 11 month old in my life) Each day is a new MAJOR undertaking... I'd like to say it's also the kids who are not sleeping well right now too, but you got your butt up at 5AM after THREE wakings... so I can too! SOOOO... exercise starts back on tomorrow, maybe tonight even! 30 minutes daily on the exercise bike.

I am a Pepsi-aholic. I quit drinking it for a couple months, but now I find I'm re weaning myself back off from it. None today so far & it's 1:00PM

You are an inspiration for sure!
