You’ve gotta love the irony: For almost a week I’ve eaten better than I have in years, exercised daily and popped vitamins religiously.
Now … snot monster.
“You have a young child. You’ll stay sick for the next five years,” a co-worker said yesterday.
Super.
Yet, this morning after 11 sneezes, five nose blowings, a Mucinex and several squirts of nose spray, I was on the treadmill for another 1.1 miles in 22 minutes.
Before you go admiring my determination to get up so early on a Saturday, I must admit it’s out of necessity (and most likely will be the only time I get up this early on a Saturday).
My husband and I are going on a road trip.
We’re meeting my best friend and her husband in Indianapolis this afternoon and coming back tomorrow. Indy is about halfway between her in Kentucky and me in Michigan, so we’ve wanted to do this for a while.
(Note: A friend is coming to stay the weekend with Evan and the dogs, so if you were thinking of trying to break into our garage to steal our life savings in Diet Coke cans, forget it.)
I’ve already checked out the menu at the restaurant where we have reservations tonight. While it’s primarily a steakhouse, I saw a very yummy-sounding chicken dish that I think will hit the spot.
I’m learning to take advantage of the wealth of information on the Internet. In just a few seconds, you can pull up a lot of restaurants’ menus online, and for many, you can find the calorie content of the dishes before you go.
Remember: It’s all about planning.
I know that if I’m starving and unprepared, I’ll cave and get whatever looks delicious, not usually what is most healthy.
Last night, we had errands to run, so we ate at TGI Fridays while we were out. I got the one entrée that specifically said low-fat: Dragonfire Chicken.
It. Was. Fabulous.
So here’s to a great weekend for me and for you. I know I need it.
I will be taking a break from exercising and blogging on Sunday (hey, if the good Lord could rest on the seventh day, can’t I?).
But I’ll be back at it Monday morning, right after my first official weigh-in. Check back to see how I did my first week.
See you then.
dragonfire chicken is ryan's favorite thing ever and i found a make-at-home version that we make all the time. here is the link to the recipe!
