Holy crap, I’m outta shape

I slept awful. I bet I woke up and looked at my alarm clock at least five times between 10:30 last night and 5 this morning.

I used to do that when I was afraid I’d oversleep for an extra early shift at The Journal.

Nerves, I guess. A new routine. A new me.

I took this picture when my alarm finally started going off. (Yes, that’s dust on the clock and nightstand. Let’s focus, people …)

I hit snooze twice.

But I got up, and I got on the treadmill.

I have a long, long way to go.

I walked for 21 minutes, exactly 1 mile.

And then I barely walked downstairs because my dang shins and calves were on fire and spazzing out. Heck, you can’t blame them. They haven’t moved much in a few years.

Alas, here we are. Day 1.

My pulse is almost back to normal, I can breathe again and the ringing in my ears appears to have stopped.

I survived the first workout, and tonight I’ll talk more about the food.

Today’s gonna be a good day.

How’s it going for you?

  1. I love your blog, Misty. You are so funny and down to earth. I almost plugged my treadmill in after I read today's entry. I think tomorrow's post will really get me back on there. ;0) I love it and I look forward to reading every entry and joining you on this exciting journey!!!

  2. Misty, I am so proud of you and impressed that you are doing this. Barry and I are on a similar journey. I am realizing just how much I use food to "stuff" unpleasant feelings. The way I can tell? When I don't eat all the junk, I get crabby, depressed, etc. But I'm making an effort to deal with the feelings instead of medicating with brownies. It's quite revolutionary for me! Also, I'm trying to come up with non-edible ways to enjoy myself. This is also a challenge - I can come up with about 150 things that sound like fun to eat, but not many non-food ways to have fun, especially when I'm alone.I'm reading a book, "The Four-Day Win" that addresses a lot of the psychological aspects of overeating. The author also has a great sense of humor. You might want to check it out. Anyway, I LOVE your blog. Keep writing, and I'll keep reading and rooting for you!
